Meet Cohort 2 Fellows
The second edition of the fellowship program launched in March 2024, attracting over 3,000 applications from young innovators. 19 fellows were selected and deployed to 13 African Union host units, where they will enhance processes at the African Union Commission while gaining valuable skills in entrepreneurship, leadership, and professional development.
Felix Fomengia Atabonglefac
My name is Felix Fomengia Atabonglefac, deployed as a fellow to the Office of the Director General (ODG) of the African Union.
I hold a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Forensics. I have always been passionate about using technology to create innovative solutions that address real-world problems in communities around me and inspiring the next generation of tech enthusiasts.

Nkosingiphile Ntshangase
I am Nkosingiphile Ntshangase, a Digital and Innovation Tech Fellow deployed to the Information Society Department (ISD) of the AU.
My career has always been fuelled by a passion for education, digital transformation, and social impact, and this passion was ignited early in my professional journey. I’ve been fortunate to take on roles that allow me to not only make a difference in the lives of those I work with, but also reach entire communities through the power of technology.
My role as a Digital Transformation Project Officer at Save the Children South Africa sparked a deep commitment to expanding access to digital tools and education, particularly in underserved areas.

Ceasar Waweru Kabue
My name is Ceasar Waweru Kabue. I am deployed as a fellow to the Office of the Director General (ODG). My journey into the world of technology and innovation began with a simple realization—Africa is brimming with untapped potential. As a young computer science enthusiast, I was captivated by the idea of using tech to solve some of our continent’s most pressing challenges. Over the years, I’ve channeled that passion into projects ranging from boosting youth advocacy to enhancing cybersecurity.
One of the highlights of my career was participating in the HackCorruption Hackathon, where we crafted digital solutions to tackle corruption. I’ve also had the honor of representing Kenya on the global stage, including my role as a NextGen Fellow at ICANN81, where I delved deep into public policy and internet governance.

Ornella Ahouandogbo
I am Ornella Ahouandogbo, a Digital and Innovation Tech Fellow at the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) within the African Union.
With a bachelor’s degree in computer science, I have always been fascinated by technology’s potential to transform lives. Growing up in Africa, I saw the extraordinary possibilities digital solutions could offer. This knowledge inspired me to build a career as a web developer.”

Kofi Mensah Abaya
My name is Kofi Mensah Abaya. I am deployed as a fellow to the Africa CDC, part of the African Union.
With a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and an MSc in Health Entrepreneurship, combined with hands- on experience in various healthcare settings and leading the development of a digital health product to enhance maternal care in Ghana, I am equipped with the skills to innovate and implement solutions that address pressing health challenges suited to the African context.
“As a fellow with the Africa CDC, I am determined to collaborate on initiatives that enhance public health infrastructure and promote sustainable health outcomes across the continent. In alignment with Agenda 2063, which envisions “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa,” I am of the view that digital health innovations can play a pivotal role in achieving these goals.”
Apiwe Hotele
My name is Apiwe Hotele, a Digital and Innovation Tech Fellow deployed to the AUDA-NEPAD Coordination Unit.
I have over eight years of experience in engineering, specialising in initiating, developing, and leading large-scale global science projects. My expertise includes systems engineering, product development, project management, software development, and technology innovation, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. I am passionate about digital inclusion, particularly for women and girls, and founded #BreakingTheStereotype, a non-profit company that implements programs and initiatives to retain girls and women in STEM fields.

David Tufe Nzadon
My name is David Tufe Nzadon. I am deployed as a fellow to the MIS Division of the AU.
With a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Computer Science, I have developed expertise in networks and systems engineering, refining my skills through practical coursework and industry experience. My professional roles—from maintaining the I-Earn payroll system at Cyberspace Networks to deploying Linux servers on Microsoft Azure at TAConnect—have enabled me to tackle complex IT challenges. These roles have also deepened my understanding of network infrastructure, cloud computing, and IT systems, reinforcing my passion for technology as a tool for transformation.

Rabiatou Harouna Moussa
My name is Rabia Moussa, deployed as a fellow to the Sustainable Environment & Blue Economy (SEBE) team of the African Union.
I bring a wealth of experience in digital strategy and development, having collaborated with several United Nations agencies and consulting for the World Bank’s Community Action for Climate Resilience Project (PACRC) on citizen engagement, gender, and digital initiatives. My background as a software engineer, complemented by a business and entrepreneurship certificate from Dartmouth College, underpins my technical expertise in this field.

Stephen Amoakoh Donkor
My name is Stephen Amoakoh Donkor. I am deployed as a fellow to the Information and Communication Directorate.
My journey into digital innovation started with a passion for technology and a desire to solve real- world problems. I always believed technology could transform lives, businesses, and communities. After pursuing a degree in Computer Science, I began developing software solutions that helped automate business processes, focusing on efficiency and impact. Over the years, I led impactful projects like the OlivesBI ERP and Enhanced Revenue Management System (ERMS), benefiting both public and private sectors in Ghana and beyond. These experiences highlighted technology’s potential in addressing Africa’s unique challenges, strengthening my resolve to make a greater contribution.

Frida Eposi Ndi
I am Frida Ndi, a dedicated tech entrepreneur and award-winning ecosystem builder deployed to the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD) of the AU.
My passion for empowering women in tech and entrepreneurship stems from my own personal experiences. As a young woman navigating the challenging landscape of entrepreneurship, I struggled with limited access to resources and proper guidance. This ignited my determination to create pathways for other women, leading to the co-founding of Data Girl Technologies in 2020—an EduTech startup committed to training and providing job placements for female tech talents across Africa. Through this initiative, I have empowered over 3,000 women to build careers in tech, transforming underserved communities in the process.

Thamsanqa Kunta-Kinte Ngcobo
My name is Thamsanqa Kunta-Kinte Ngcobo, I am deployed as a fellow to the African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR).
Curiosity and a passion for discovery have shaped my journey. I was fortunate to join the University of Cape Town to study my first love, astronomy. But it was here that I discovered a second love, computer science. I realised I wanted to make a direct impact on my surroundings, which initially led me into software development. I worked across diverse environments, from startups to corporations, leveraging my computational background. Over time, I found my path in data science—a field that balances scientific rigour with real-world impact.

Hagernesh Tadesse
My name is Hagernesh Tadesse. I am deployed as a fellow to the Information and Communication Directorate (ICD).
I am a dedicated Software Engineering graduate with a passion for data science, GCP and AI for business certified. I am skilled in developing software applications while leveraging the power of data. I have always been passionate about sustainable development in Africa and finding innovative solutions to African challenges, collaborating with like-minded individuals to make these goals a reality.

Waiswa Ronald Mirondo
My name is Waiswa Ronald Mironda, I am deployed as a fellow to the office of the AU Youth Envoy (OYE).
Growing up in a community-oriented environment in a remote part of eastern Uganda has profoundly shaped my thinking and fuels my vision to innovate for the benefit of rural communities. This background has instilled in me a strong belief in cohesive communities and ICT as essential pillars of development. My passion is engaging in community development projects aimed at empowering those less fortunate.”

Melkam Mekonnen
My name is Melkam Mekonnen, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as a Software Developer deployed to the Africa CDC unit at the African Union.
With a solid background in Information Technology and over five years of hands-on experience in software development, my professional journey has been dedicated to leveraging technology to address key challenges in public health and education across Africa.
In my new role at Africa CDC, I am eager to leverage my technical expertise to support data-driven decision-making in public health. My goal is to strengthen data systems that empower health initiatives across the continent, ensuring that accurate and timely information is available to drive effective health interventions. Mekitmfon AwakEssien
My name is Mekitmfon Herbert AwakEssien, I am deployed as a fellow to the Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETTIM) unit of the African Union.
I am a passionate digital development, innovation, and communications expert committed to driving Africa’s economic independence through technological advancement. My journey began with a computer science degree, where I honed my skills in software development, web design and graphic design. However, I soon realized that Africa’s economic challenges were deeply intertwined with its digital development landscape. I transitioned into the field of ICT4D, now known as digital development. Throughout my work, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology in various sectors.

Thokozile Manaka
My name is Thokozile Manaka and I am pleased to introduce myself as an accomplished Data Scientist and Researcher from Lesotho deployed as a fellow to the Africa CDC at the African Union.
With a background in Mathematics and Physics, my research interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and healthcare. I am committed to driving digital health innovation and improving patient outcomes through cutting-edge research in machine learning, particularly focusing on advancing natural language processing techniques for healthcare in underserved communities, such as lower and middle income countries. In this context, my work has been published in national and international journals and has been presented at numerous conferences.

Goodnews Sunday Sandy
My name is Goodnews Sunday Sandy. I am deployed as a fellow to the Information Society Department (ISD).
I am a software developer and open-source contributor. My journey into software development started with a curiosity about how technology works and how things are built. Growing up, I was fascinated by computers, which fueled my interest in technology and desire to create software that transforms ideas into reality. My passion for technology has driven me to continuously strive to learn and contribute to the evolving world of technology.

Dereje Mulat Ferede
My name is Dereje Mulat Ferede. I am deployed as a fellow to the AU Innovation Lab.
I started my career in information systems as an IT specialist, concentrating on troubleshooting and software installations. However, I felt a strong urge to link technology with business needs, which prompted my shift to an ERP project coordinator role. In this position, I implemented integrated software solutions that improved collaboration and efficiency across departments. As I progressed to a Senior Business Analyst, I leveraged data to guide strategic decisions and collaborated with stakeholders to pinpoint opportunities for innovation.

Chimmaramma Christabel Onwuka
I’m Christabel Onwuka, an African Union – Digital and Innovation Fellow deployed to Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). I’m a data science and analytics professional who enjoys leveraging technology with data to bridge the gap between organizational objectives and their actual impact. With a background in biotechnology, education and healthcare. I am fascinated by the intersection of public policy/policy making, health, data science and technology and can’t wait to embark on the impactful projects that are bound to emerge from such amalgamations!
